Farmer's market

A quick study of a cauliflower and another of a fava bean. Grilled fava beans sound edible, but I have a gag reflex at the thought of actually eating a lima bean. They are nice to draw however. Both studies are watercolor in custom made sketchbook. Arches HP.

Dee, your work is just beautiful! I really like your creative ideas: weather clips, paint chips, hotel stationary. And your sketches are delightful.

  6. Wow! The textures on these are terrific and they're so beautiful. I'm curous about your custom sketchbook--do you insert a variety of types of paper and then work on the type you want for the image, or is it all hot press (90 lb I assume).

  7. Thank you, everyone, for the nice comments.
Jana, this particular custom sketchbook is my "lazy-person" sketchbook where I gathered together mostly Arches hot press 90 lb. sheets with a few cold press sheets and took them to Kinko's to have them wire bound. The cover is just some cardboard. One of my lazy-person sketchbook's cover is actually a piece of a Fed Ex box. It might be my favorite sketchbook. I like drawing on the hot press and the sketchbook is not precious so it's very free-ing for me. I can also rip pages out.
